For those of you who want more information about solar energy but are hesitant to reach out to anyone, Google has created a pretty unique tool that will give you an idea of how solar power could work for you.
Why Is It Important?
When it comes time for us to research our own household projects; many people have a tendency to want to do their own legwork before calling in the professionals. We all know what can happen: we call someone to come out for a quote or inquire on their website. Only to be the recipient of emails and phone calls that make us the target of their new marketing campaign.
Project Sunroof, found at google.com/sunroof, allows you to enter your home address into its search bar to find statistics unique to your own roof.
How to Use Project Sunroof?
After clicking search you’ll see a map of your neighborhood along with an infrared layout of your own rooftop. You’ll be able to see how much shade and sun your home receives and can also view some pretty interesting calculations. Based on Google’s algorithms, Project Sunroof will tell you how many hours of usable sunlight your roof receives each year, based on a day-to-day analysis of that area’s weather.
You’ll also be shown how many square feet of your roof is deemed usable for solar panels and finally, the number everyone wants, you’ll see how much money you can save on your electricity bill over a 20 year period. Remember, this data is based on Google’s own formula, and they don’t quite have the industry expertise as we do.
